Live or let die
My Contributions
- Turn based movement system
Coroutines were used to animate the dice and wait for the enemy dice to move. - Fighting mechanic
The current value facing up was calculated with direction vectors and the values of adjacent dice were compared. - Camera Rotation and Controls
Problem: Can only see three sides of the dice, making planning moves hard. - Solution: My solution was to rotate the isometric view to be able to see all sides of the dice.
New problem: The movement keys control the die from the original point of view, making movement feel unnatural and confusing when view is rotated.
Solution: The movement controls were redesigned to be able to rotate with the view, meaning forward is always forward.
What is this?
Live Or Let Die is a puzzle game that follows the theme of the 2022 GMTK Game Jam ”Roll of the dice”. We interpreted this as a literal die rolling. We then made use of the dice feature to show different numbers when rolling. This game is not random by any means. The player controls one or more dice and needs to roll them to land on the right space with the right value. The levels have various difficulty and there are obstacles like doors that need to be opened. We also decided to add enemy dice, which move after the player moved their dice. Landing next to an enemy die leads to a simple battle of value. The die with the highest value wins, and the other gets thrown of the level. If both carry the same value, they get shoved back one step each.

How was it made?
This game was made during the 48 hours of GMTK Game Jam 2022. We were a team of 3 people, with two programmers and one level designer. We used Unity as everybody was most comfortable with this engine.
